Youthful exuberance, unique opportunities and promising hope....these describe the ‘essence’ of MPYO!

For the last 5 years, youths averaging 18 years of age, with a penchant for classical music, have come together to pursue their dreams of playing as an orchestra, and creating wonderful symphonic music. The MPYO has been given the unique opportunity and exposure to learn from, interact with, and perform alongside our professional Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) musicians, led by Mr. Kevin Field, Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of MPYO. The numerous opportunities for these youths are presented by way of music camps, sectional tutorials, masterclasses, workshops, chamber ensembles, rehearsals and performances at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, as well as concert tours.

Through these activities, I believe that the members of the MPYO have and will continue to hone their musical skills and augment their knowledge and experience of classical music repertoires and other music genres. And the exposure and experience of working together with professional musicians, composers and other artistes, would undoubtedly engender in them greater self-confidence, discipline and improved networking and social skills, thus standing them in good stead to scale greater heights as musicians and as individuals.

These aspiring musicians of the MPYO hold our hope for the future generation of musicians of the MPO. I hope that the MPYO will continue to excel and break new ground.

For the parents of these young musicians, I thank them for their commitment and their role in supporting their children’s journey and contribution towards the national musical talent pool.

I look forward to welcoming new members to the MPYO, and to their involvement in furthering the achievements of the MPYO.
